Lab Report

Instructions: Use the questions and prompts to record information about your lab. If directed by your teacher, use these notes as a guide when writing your formal lab report.

1.
TITLE:

2.
HYPOTHESIS - Write one sentence predicting what you believe will happen. Consider writing your hypothesis in "If..., then..." format.

3.
INTRODUCTION - Discuss the purpose of the lab and include any relevant background information or research. This is where you clearly define the problem or question you are trying to answer by conducting the lab.

4.
MATERIALS - List all materials and equipment required to complete the lab. Be sure to list specific quantities as needed.

5.
PROCEDURE - Clearly state each step of the lab procedure. Someone else should be able to recreate your lab results by following the directions written here. This is also a good place to identify controls as well as independent and dependent variables.

6.
DATA & RESULTS - Summarize your results without drawing conclusions. Include data, graphs, charts and/or calculations as needed.

7.
DISCUSSION - Interpret your results and draw a conclusion based upon your findings. This is the section to answer any questions presented by your teacher or lab handout, explain any experimental errors, state if your hypothesis was correct, and suggest possible improvements.

8.
REFERENCES - Properly cite any sources used for background research.
