Lick Your Elbow (Grade 3)

Print Test (Only the test content will print)
Name: Date:

Lick Your Elbow

Have you ever tried to lick your own elbow? If you've tried and succeeded, you're one of the few people in the world who has this special talent. For most people, licking their elbow is impossible.

Why is licking your elbow nearly impossible? It has to do with the length of your arms and the flexibility of your joints. For most people, your elbow is just far enough down on your arm that you cannot reach it. Even if you hold your arm up to your mouth it is hard to reach. If you can get your elbow close to your mouth, you still have to be able to rotate your arm or your neck to help you reach it.

Most people are content to not be able to lick their elbows. However, if you really want to, there is a method you can try.

1. Stretch your arm and neck to loosen them up.
2. Wrap your arm around your chin. This helps bring your elbow as close to your mouth as you can.
3. Use your other hand to push your arm as far back as you can. It may hurt a little.
4. Stretch your neck forward as far as you can without hurting it.
5. Stick out your tongue.

While not a guaranteed method, by doing this stretch, you will help get your elbow close to your mouth. This will ensure you have a better chance of giving your elbow a lick.
