Have you ever seen a bald eagle? They are large birds. Their open wings can be over 8 feet from tip to tip. A bald eagle can weigh up to 14 pounds.Bald eagles can build very big nests. They add sticks to their nests each year. The nests become larger over time. Some can be 10 feet wide. Nests can be over 13 feet tall. That’s higher than the ceilings of most rooms!
Bald eagles lay eggs in their nests. It takes about 35 days for a bald eagle egg to hatch. The baby is called an eaglet. Bald eagles can live for a long time. Some live to be fifty years old!
The bald eagle was once in danger of extinction. Today, their numbers are growing. Keep your eyes to the sky and maybe you will see a bald eagle soaring overhead!
