Amphibian Vocabulary Words

Amphibian Vocabulary Words

The word amphibian means "double live." Many amphibians start their lives in water. Then, most amphibians move onto land when grown. They have gills to breathe in water when young. They also have thin, moist skin. They use their skin to help them breathe on land. Some amphibians can even regrow parts of their bodies if needed!

Amphibians are often mixed up with reptiles. Both reptiles and amphibians have backbones. They are also cold-blooded. But, amphibians begin life with gills. Reptiles do not have gills. Amphibians have thin skin. Reptiles have scales.
