Grade 10 Forces and Motion

A car is travelling at a uniform motion of 17 m/s[E] when the driver notices that the traffic light has turned to orange. The driver takes 0.7 s to react before he starts to brake. The car then comes to a complete stop at the stop line in 8 seconds before the traffic light turns red. Note: The velocity-time graph when plotted over the time intervals 0s to 0.7s and 0.7s to 8.7s both form straight line graphs.

Questions:
a) How far will the car travel before the driver starts to apply the brakes?
b) What distance does the car travel while the driver is applying the brakes to stop?
c) What is the total distance needed for the driver to stop the car from when he sees the traffic light turn orange until he comes to a halt?
d) What is the car's (de)acceleration?
