Usain Bolt is a famous runner. During the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, he became known as the fastest human alive. Scientists figured out that Usain Bolt could run at a speed of around 23 miles per hour. They did this by averaging the times from his fastest races. The average human can run about 8.5 miles per hour. Usain Bolt can run close to 23 miles per hour. He is really fast!

However, even Usain Bolt's running speed is not very fast compared to how fast scientists think humans will one day be able to run. Scientists have found that humans should one day be able to reach 40 miles per hour. They did this by looking at how the human body is made. They also looked at how much force its muscles can take.

Of course, how fast humans are able to run depends on many different factors. A human's body weight, height, and muscle strength, all play a role in determining how fast someone can run. Outside factors, such as the speed of the wind and the temperature can also affect a person's speed. Scientists must also consider the type of ground a person runs on. Different surfaces require different amounts of force and muscle strength.

To reach 40 miles per hour, the runner and the conditions must be perfect. This is nearly impossible. For now, Usain Bolt's 23+ miles per hour speed is incredibly impressive. Although the cheetah, which can run up to 70 miles per hour, might call his speed incredibly slow.
