Many would argue that Michael Jeffery Jordan is the best player to ever play the game. Born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, Michael was destined for greatness.

He was taught to love basketball by his dad and older brother. He wasn’t the most skilled in his younger days. In fact, he was cut by his high school team during his sophomore year. However, he did not let that stop him. In his senior year he became the only player in high school basketball history to average a triple double. He was even a McDonald’s High School All-American.

Michael Jordan attended the University of North Carolina where, in his freshman year, he went on to hit the game-winning shot in the national title game against Georgetown. During his sophomore year, he won the Naismith award for the best player in college basketball. In the 1984 NBA Draft, Michael was selected 3rd overall by the Chicago Bulls. That year he was also named Rookie of the Year and made it on the all-star team.

Michael Jordan was electrifying on the court. He could make shots from anywhere on the court and, most importantly, he could win. In 1991, he won his first NBA Championship. It was the first of three in a row for the Bulls.

In 1994, Michael Jordan “retired” from basketball and decided to play baseball. While playing for the Birmingham Barons he hit .203. However, he never saw a Major League field. He decided to return to the NBA in 1995. Ironically, the Bulls had retired his number, so when he first came back he had to wear number 45 instead of the iconic 23 (they later made an exception for the great one).

Michael Jordan went on to lead the Bulls to three more finals championships. After going in and out of the league a couple more times, he finally officially retired on April 16, 2003. Michael Jordan finished as the NBA’s third leading scorer of all time, won the scoring title nine times, and made the all-defensive team nine times. Off the court Michael has an extremely successful brand of shoes, called Jordans, owns the Charlotte Hornets, and has made appearances in many different movies, including the iconic Space Jam.
