47.stars: destinies. The stars were thought to control people’s lives.
48.underlings: inferior people
- It is not our destinies that are at fault, Brutus, it is that we have not acted strongly.
- Brutus, we blame our inferior selves when we should blame our destinies.
- Men’s flaws, Brutus, lie not in destiny, but in the inferior beings who control the flaws.
- Men can master their destinies up to a point, Brutus, but then we must bend.
