There is a wall between you and I:
My voice is warped when it reaches the other side.
Your words bounce on the bricks, they fall.
Why can't we hear each other at all?

I hide behind the headphones in my ears.
You act so strong and try to mask your fears.
"Mother, I think about tomorrow, I do."
I say these things, I do, but not to you.

Your eyes scan my room and search my heart,
the people you don't know in my posters, my art,
and the trophies you dust for memories.
I understand the things that you don't say.

When the iPod is turned off, and you sit on my bean chair,
the wall shrinks - it is a football that I can kick away.
When you and I are silent, and your fingers stroke my hair.
you understand the things that I don't have to say.
