A binary cycle plant uses hot water at a lower temperature than that which supplies steam plants(100-300 deg.F), this technology is generally employed in the following process.
  1. It flashes most of the liquid to steam, and is separated from the brine. The remaining liquid and condensed steam is injected back into the reservoir.
  2. It is used directly to drive the turbine, as the steam condenses back to a liquid it is injected back into the reservoir.
  3. It is passed through a heat exchanger in conjunction with a secondary fluid with a lower boiling point, the secondary fluid vaporizes to drive a turbine. The geothermal fluid is condensed and injected back into the reservoir.
