Egypt is known for its pyramids. One of its pyramids is the most famous of them all. It is so famous it is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is part of a group of three pyramids. It has become the most famous of the three. This is because it is the largest of the pyramids. It is also the oldest. The Pyramid of Giza is also still completely intact.

Around 2540 BC, ancient Egyptians started building the Great Pyramid. It was built as a tomb for an Egyptian Pharaoh named Khufu. He ordered the pyramid to be built before he died. The Great Pyramid was not the first pyramid to be built, but Khufu wanted to make sure it was the greatest pyramid. He designed it to be larger and smoother than any other pyramid ever.

It took around 20 years to finish the Great Pyramid. The base of the pyramid was built to be 756 feet across. The pyramid itself was built to be 481 feet high However, today it is only 455 feet tall. It took over 2 million stones to build the pyramid.

Next to the Great Pyramid, Khufu’s son Khafre built his own pyramid. Khafre’s son, Menkaure also built his own pyramid next to the other two. Still neither of the sons’ pyramids were as great as Khufu’s.

Today, visitors can go to Egypt to see the Great Pyramid themselves. Sometimes they can even go inside part of the Great Pyramid. However, the government limits how many people are allowed inside the pyramids at one time. This helps keep the pyramids from deteriorating. It also makes it easier to control what people do inside the pyramids. The government regularly works to preserve the pyramids. Even though the Great Pyramid is amazing, it is also old. It needs regular work so people can enjoy it for thousands of years to come.
