King Quotes

Most students of history are aware that the “I Have a Dream Speech” given by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963 contains many memorable lines. However, King left us with great wisdom in his many sermons and writings, too. Read each quote below, do an internet search to discover where and when it was said, and then attempt to explain in your own words what the quotation means.
1.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

2.
"The time is always right to do what is right."

3.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

4.
"...everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve. You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love."

5.
"We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war but the positive affirmation of peace.”

6.
"A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right. A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice. A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true."

7.
“He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.”
