Independence Day
Instructions: Just one year after signing the Declaration of Independence, Philadelphia celebrated on July 4, 1777 with bonfires and fireworks. The practice spread, and by the end of the War of 1812 celebrating the Fourth of July became a fairly common event. It was established as a holiday by Congress in 1870.
