# Graphing with Correct Scale and Units (Grades 11-12)

## Graphing with Correct Scale and Units

1.
Make a Displacement/Time graph that shows a student walking to school.
Show the student walk 1 block and stop for traffic for 2 minutes then walk another block to school.

Label displacement on the vertical (up/down) axis using blocks as units.
Label time on the horizontal (left/right) axis using minutes as units.
The walking time is up to you so long as the pause is two minutes.

2.
For the holidays you go to an amusement park and ride the tallest roller coaster available. The roller coaster starts at a height of 180 feet and lasts for 2 minutes. Choose a reasonable scale for the graph, sketch a possible graph showing height versus time, and label the graph appropriately including units.

Your family goes on a vacation to Yellowstone National Park. You leave Idaho Falls (elevation 1440 m) at noon and you drive through the mountains reaching an elevation of 2600 m when you are about half way through the trip. At 3:00 p.m. you reach the campsite (elevation 2460 m). Choose a reasonable scale for the graph, sketch a possible graph showing elevation versus time, and label the graph appropriately (including units).

A rock is thrown off of a cliff that is 25 feet high. The rock is in the air for more than 2 seconds. Choose a reasonable scale for the graph, sketch the graph, and label the graph appropriately including units.

A rock is thrown off of a cliff that is 5 meters high. The rock is in the air for 1 second. Choose a reasonable scale for the graph, sketch the graph, and label the graph appropriately including units.
